Also known as The Way We Wear Fairs, Frock Up is the largest organiser of vintage fairs in Australia and once a year they grace Hobart with their stylish presence for a full weekend of fashionista heaven. Including antique, vintage and retro pieces this clothing market allows you to experience over 200 years of fashion history – think racks and racks of everything from tight waisted Victorian dresses to big shouldered eighties numbers and estate jewellery through to simple costume jewellery, all available to purchase.

The Grand Poobah Bazaar Night Market

Susannah : 9 September 2015 6:55 pm : Markets

The Grand Poobah Bazaar Night Market is a wonderfully eclectic pop-up market where you can find a huge range of obscure bargains. Books, art, collectables, treasures, secondhand and homemade goods are all served up with great music, food and drinks. Better yet there’s always a great crew of stallholders selling alternative pre-loved clothing and accessories. Held on Friday night every couple of months at The Grand Poobah, it’s the perfect after-work stop with friends for a few unique fashion finds before launching yourself into the weekend.

Sunday Swap and Sale Market

Susannah : 2 July 2015 7:27 am : Markets

The Sunday Swap and Sale Market is an all-new market for those looking for indie, custom, punk and alternative style clothing. Held every month at the Republic Bar & Cafe (the perfect location if you ask me), the beer garden gets absolutely packed with stallholders selling and swapping unique fashion items. It’s a wonderful meeting place to shop, drink and catch up with friends, and better yet, part of the stallholder fee is donated to a Cambodian school a part of the ACE Foundation.

My Closet Market

Susannah : 4 May 2015 9:54 pm : Markets

My Closet Market is my all-new favourite clothing market – ok, so it’s not in Hobart, but it’s more than worth the trip to Launceston for an afternoon of preloved shopping perfection. By far the largest men’s and women’s fashion market in Tassie, it would be nearly impossible to walk away empty handed with such an amazing selection of high-quality clothes, shoes, jewellery and accessories available. My Closet Market is held five times a year at St Ailbes Hall in Margaret Street and you definitely don’t want to miss out!

Sorell Market

Susannah : 25 October 2014 2:10 pm : Markets

Referred to as a ‘country market’, the Sorell Market has many similarities to the Hobart Showground Market (detailed below). It’s held every Sunday beside the Sorell Memorial Hall where you’ll find more than 60 stallholders selling vegetables, plants, tools, antiques and collectables. From a clothing perspective there is less on offer, but you never know what you are going to find in one of the car-boot-stalls. My advice is to do a lot of rummaging, a little bit of haggling and with any luck your efforts will be rewarded.

Hobart Showground Market

Susannah : 7 October 2014 2:16 pm : Markets

The Hobart Showground Market takes place every Sunday morning in Glenorchy. A large number of permanent and casual stallholders sell everything you could possibly hope to find second-hand, including some stalls dedicated to pre-loved clothing. In my opinion, the quality of clothing can sometimes be questionable, but as long as you are prepared to do some digging, you can find some great pieces at truly bargain-basement prices. Definitely worth visiting in the warmer months (just beware that there are no changerooms!).

Salamanca Market

Susannah : 31 August 2013 2:15 pm : Markets

Salamanca Market is an iconic Hobart event that has been running for more than 40 years and today includes over 300 stalls selling all kinds of Tasmanian produce. And in amongst the food, arts and crafts I’m pleased to say there are several pre-loved clothing stalls. These stallholders scour the state to find the very best modern, retro and vintage pre-loved clothing items, many of which date back even earlier than Salamanca Market itself. Rain or shine, it’s a fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning

Re-Loved Market

Susannah : 11 February 2013 2:40 pm : Markets

The Re-Loved Market is one of my favourite way to buy clothes. Dozens of stallholders meet in Battery Point on the first Sunday of the month to sell old, new, vintage and chain-store clothing, shoes and accessories. It has been running since 2010 thanks to a highly dedicated team of organisers, and I can’t thank them enough for the role Re-Loved has played in the expansion of my wardrobe.
